The world is ending and there is no two ways about it.
It ends when someone we love dies, it ends when we don’t get what we want, it ends when we see someone else succeed when we know that they didn’t deserve it. But most of all, it ends when in quite the literal sense- global warming, melting of the polar ice caps and all that jazz.
Humans are the most interesting creatures nature has created. Not only do we pretend to be the most advanced species on earth, on one hand, but also on the other hand are solely responsible for the extinction of thousands of species. Species of plant and animals that have been around for millions of years. We’ve managed to wipe them out with the touch of a button.
Yes you are in fact correct; I do feel like a hypocrite. Sitting in an air-conditioned home, writing about something that is currently happening, and probably something to which I helped contribute. It is the very definition of hypocrisy. We watch other people fight on our behalf to save the world we live in while we strive to be a part of the large conglomerates who are causing this in the first place. Time to wake up and smell the acid rain.
If you’re reading this, you have access to a computer. Plausibly, you have a home to stay in, food to eat, water to drink and people who care about you, without anyone trying to kill you. You’re luckier than 90% of the Earths inhabitants. Perhaps more. Take a moment to process that information. When was the last time you had such high statics for anything?? Yea, that’s what I figured.
We appreciate naught. Atleast not while we have it. We then work towards getting it back or replacing it or replicating the feelings we had towards it. Somebody once said, ”Out of sight, Out of mind”, and it’s that true! What astounds me even more is our ability to ignore it. We ignore all kinds of “the end of the world”. But all of this is about all of us; it’s about all of you and all of me.
